WHO WE ARE
As South Africa’s longest established painting and decorating firm our rich heritage as premier painting contractors began in 1886 when we were founded in Durban by Mr SC Smith.
The company is led by passionate and committed owners Chris Brown and Jean Broerse. Chris’ father bought the business in 1950 and Chris joined his father after having studied Building Science at Natal University. Chris took over the reins early in his career and his vision was to retain and build on the legacy created by his father. Jean joined in 2006 and started on a large contract in Ballito and his passion and drive for excellence, closely aligned to the company’s culture, saw him rise through the ranks to Managing Director rapidly.

This highly specialised division of Smith and Winfield focuses on the structural rehabilitation of the building fabric with patented products using specialist techniques. Our harsh climate causes decay of the structure which requires periodic repairs to prevent compounded problems.
